Oakville in the house!

Our first from the famed heart of Napa Valley. Home to the most elite and coveted names, where price has no upper limits it seems.

I won't tell you this is from a vineyard next to Screaming Eagle. One of them may be. I do know H.W. Crabb would be proud of this juice.

"Trinity" represents our version of the Holy Trinity: quilted together from three sources of absolutely peerless Cabernet. Each of which only had a small amount so spare us.

Each source prices their bottling at, or over, $175 on their own. Each one snagging easy 98+ pointers like candy from a baby, year in, year out.

Did I mention the price is $49? Way to bury the lede.

To have these three sources blended in the glass at this price is absurd. And sure, it's just a youngin' that needs some time. But as always, I recommend popping one to get your bearings and establish a benchmark. Which will be sky high. Elegantly built, with a supporting structure that would put a First Growth or Le Pin on notice.

Officially on the record, this is 100% Oakville. We pieced these 150 cases together from these three sources to bring a beautifully balanced wine of 92% Cab Sauv and 8% Cab Franc.

On a pop and pull it's inky purple in the glass, with chocolate dusted wild blueberries, black figs, black cherry Zyns, rose petals, and spices galore all up in there. The sources range from 80-100% new French oak, and while I don't know the typical toast or cooperage, it doesn't taste overt and definitely lends a nice spice melange to the wine. Framed with powdery and fine sweet tannins, the enduring finish trawls your palate with graphite, minerality, and loamy earth as it gently fades with just enough structure to remind you this is classic Oakville.

This is quite the magical wine Bobby stitched together. Not surprising at all given the pedigree. What is surprising, shocking even - that we could secure ANY from these producers and bring it her at this price.

Plenty of this to go around. Until there's not.

Winemaker’s Addendum

From the cellar

Trinity Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, 2024
92% Cabernet Sauvignon · 8% Cabernet Franc · Oakville, Napa Valley · Six barrels from three producers
Oakville holds some of the most coveted Cabernet ground in the world, and its best fruit rarely leaves home. For years, the barrels offered to us from this AVA were the ones that fell short: second wines, lots set aside, wine made to be sold off. We turned them down, one after another, and waited.
In 2024, the wait ended. Over six months, three wineries reached out separately, each with only a small amount to spare. These weren’t castoffs. They were true surplus, same wines that were destined to be bottled from producers with devoted followings, each known for an Oakville bottling that sells for $175 to $250.
Great barrels don’t always make a great blend, though. Over those six months, we worked through samples from all three cellars to find the barrels that spoke to one another. Six made the final cut.
The 2024 vintage was warm, and the danger in a warm year is a wine that leans on fruit alone. We wanted something balanced, complex and classically Oakville. Five of the six barrels were new oak, which can easily overwhelm a wine. Here it does the opposite. The oak is seamless and complementary, lifting and focusing the fruit rather than masking it.
Trinity is our first Oakville Cabernet. It has generous fruit, a plush mid-palate and the alluring spice that marks great Oakville Cabernet. Think of it as an Oakville super blend: three cult producers brought together in a single bottle.
